• Local Communities and Job Creation

Local communities are facing difficult economic conditions. The effects of the recession are hitting local governments across the nation. They are eliminating services and laying off employees.

These are essential jobs like fire and police services. Teachers, health care, transportation and childcare services are all facing drastic cutbacks leaving citizens with no alternatives.

By restoring and saving these services, we can put a million people back to work and spur addtional job creation by local businesses.

  • Support the Local Jobs for America Act (LJAA)

The Local Jobs for America Act (H.R. 4812, S. 3500) will put one million people back to work.

The legislation provides local governments and nonprofits with funding to hire more firefighters, police, teachers and other public sector employees that will directly impact the day-to-day oprations of our local communities.

The legislation also gives priority to rehire workers that were laid off from city services. This will prevent local governments from having to raise taxes or deciding to cut essential city serives.

Finally, the legislation provides funding for 50,000 private sector, on-the-job training positions—full time positions that will last two years.

  • Highlighted Service Cuts

Localities across the nation are facing unprecedented fiscal pressures. Revenues are declining as sales, income and property tax collections are all down. This combined with an increased need for services as the public faces high unemployment, scaled back hours and increased prices for goods and services.
